How is Topsail looking now?

Postby Hawkeye52 » Fri Apr 07, 2017 9:11 pm

So, I live close by the island but have not been over in about a week and a half. The last time I went, I found NTB to be sanded in once again. Same with doggone Surf City. In fact, I have not found any gold on Topsail since fall 2015. I know it is there, on the hard pan and in the water. I just haven't found it due to rough seas and too much sand. Anyways, rant over. :x

Thus, I have been going to a location that is north of me. :)

Take care and HH!!

I went to topsail two weeks ago and didn't find much. First target was a ring but it was junk. The biggest piece of gold I have seen found in pender/NHC was pulled in the wetsand in surf city last summer (not by me either). It was a recent drop and I was hunting so close to the area too.

Yeah, Topsail can be hit and miss. I found a some clad and junk earrings, plus a little silver locket from a necklace about two weeks ago myself. There was some sand movement at the time. The finds came from in front of beach houses, too. This time of the year, though is when I have found all of my gold rings. Three gold from NTB and one gold on Onslow Beach. The past couple of years, I do not hunt in the summer time.

Too hot, too many people and usually too much sand. New drops don't really excite me, as I prefer to hunt erosion, and thus wait till fall and winter. The gold is there, but it tends to be deep due to all of the beach re-nourishment. I hope to try some water hunting again this summer, if the weather and sand cooperate for me.

Unfortunately for me, its the only time I can consistently go. Even though I can make up my own schedule for the most part during the fall/spring semesters I work around 55-60hrs per week so I just cant really get out much because the rest of my free time is spent with my kids. Come May and I cut my work load down to 20-25hrs per week and I can go everyday...But the heat, even at 6am, is unbearable in June-Sept. I last about 1.5 hours out there and usually have to leave the beach by 730am dripping in sweat.
